HARLINGEN, Texas – Sept. 15, 2016 – Texas Gas Service announced that it launched an Energy Efficiency Program in the Rio Grande Valley as of Sept. 1, 2016. The program offers more than 15 different mail-in rebates to help customers choose the most efficient appliances for their home or business needs. Year-round rebate offers include natural gas ranges, dryers, water heaters, free-standing ranges, natural gas vehicles and more. Rebates and program funds will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

This new program is available to customers living inside the designated city limits of Texas Gas Service’s Rio Grande Valley service area including: Alamo, Alton, Bayview, Brownsville, Combes, Donna, Edcouch, Edinburg, Elsa, Harlingen, Hidalgo, La Feria, Laguna Vista, La Joya, La Villa, Los Fresnos, Lyford, McAllen, Mercedes, Mission, Penitas, Pharr, Palmhurst, Palmview, Primera, Progresso, Port Isabel, Palm Valley, Rancho Viejo, Raymondville, Rio Hondo, San Benito, San Juan and Weslaco. Customers within these areas should expect to see information included in their bills in the next few weeks.

“The Rio Grande Valley Energy Efficiency Program provides rebates that can help residential and commercial customers afford efficient natural gas appliances,” said Julie Hatfield, Energy Efficiency Program Manager. “We are grateful to the leadership in the Rio Grande Valley area who partnered with us to make this program possible for our customers.” 

The program offers rebates for residential, commercial and new construction.  It also includes a low-income/free equipment program which will be available through regional community assistance agencies. 

Qualifying Rio Grande Valley customers may apply for:

• A $100 mail-in rebate for the purchase and installation of a new natural gas range (freestanding, combined natural gas cooktop and natural gas oven);
• A $100 rebate for the installation of a natural gas range stub connection where one did not previously exist; A $100 rebate for a tank water heater; 
• A $750 rebate for a tankless water heater; 
• A $225 rebate for a natural gas dryer; or 
• A $225 rebate for a new natural gas dryer stub-out installed in the laundry room.
