EL PASO, Texas – October 13, 2015 – Texas Gas Service is beginning the relocation of natural gas pipelines as part of the City of El Paso’s street car line construction project. This relocation could affect traffic on various streets in downtown El Paso.
Relocation of the natural gas pipelines is expected to be completed by January 2016 and various streets downtown will be affected by road closures and detours as the project progresses. Texas Gas Service will continue to work closely with the City of El Paso to minimize potential traffic concerns.
The scope of work for the relocation of gas lines is mostly limited to Santa Fe and Kansas Streets. Work at Kansas Street and Mills will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, October 14. To ensure the safety of pedestrians and contractors on-site, Kansas Street will be decreased from two lanes to one lane. Mills Street from Kansas to Campbell will be closed entirely to thru traffic.
There will be signage advising of detours. Please allow for extra drive time for your next trip downtown, as motorists will experience delays due to the decreased lanes of traffic and the road closure. The downtown exit may be especially congested on days with high traffic due to scheduled jury duty, as Kansas Street is the main corridor to the El Paso County Courthouse from Interstate 10. Alternate routes to downtown include the Border Highway (from the East), and Mesa Street and Paisano (from the West).
Texas Gas Service provides clean, safe, and reliable natural gas to more than 640,000 customers in Texas. It is a division of ONE Gas, Inc. (NYSE: OGS), a natural gas distribution company and the successor to the company founded in 1906 as Oklahoma Natural Gas Company, which became ONEOK, Inc. (NYSE: OKE) in 1980, a diversified energy company that today is the general partner of ONEOK Partners, L.P. (NYSE: OKS).
ONE Gas provides natural gas distribution services to more than 2 million customers in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. ONE Gas is one of the largest publicly traded, 100 percent regulated, natural gas utilities in the United States.
