This Earth Day, we’re sharing some tips on what you can do to help make a positive impact on the environment, invest in our planet and put some money back in your wallet.
Time Appliances Efficiently
Run dryers, dishwashers and other large appliances after dark to limit competition with your A/C. These take a lot of energy to run, so running them when your AC is doing less work during summer nights helps balance the load.
Check Doors and Windows
Seal doors & windows to keep cool air in and warm air out. This helps your AC run at optimum efficiency and makes your home more energy efficient when late spring and summer heat hits. Drafts can be responsible for up to 30 percent of a home’s temperature fluctuation1. Your AC then works overtime to maintain a comfortable temperature in your home.
Inspect Air Vents
Check all vents to ensure they’re open, dust-free and directed toward the room’s center. If the filter gets too dirty or the supply ducts are too restrictive, the blower pushes air at a higher pressure, impacting your energy efficiency. While air will still be flowing, it will cost you more.
Reduce Water Use
Switch to a low-flow showerhead to reduce water and energy usage from your water heater.
Upgrade Older Appliances
