It’s a great time for job seekers! Many companies hiring and adding positions – including Texas Gas Service.
"As a company, we have adapted to the new virtual environment with everything we do including our recruiting efforts,” said Adam Mellor, Talent Acquisition supervisor for ONE Gas, parent company of Texas Gas Service. “With our virtual career fairs, we're actively looking for individuals who are eager to join an exciting industry focused on safety and service."
ONE Gas connects with top talent through virtual career fairs. These online recruitment opportunities became a popular way for companies and job candidates to connect in 2020 and show no signs of stopping. Career experts predict that 80% of recruiting will remain virtual for the foreseeable future.
ONE Gas will host a Virtual Career Fair from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 28. Interested candidates can visit careerfair.onegas.com to register and submit a resume.
Participants will get a better understanding of what it’s like to work for ONE Gas through presentations, live discussions and one-on-one sessions with hiring leaders. They’ll also have an opportunity to hear about the company’s Inclusion and Diversity efforts and why it is a core value.
Your Time to Shine
Want to wow at your next virtual career fair? Our recruitment team shared their top tips for success.
#1 – Get Your Mind Right
Don’t take your job search lightly just because it’s virtual. This is the real deal.
“Expect this to be as close to an in-person career fair as possible,” said Seth Points, ONE Gas recruiter. “Prepare yourself in the same way you would if you were appearing in person even though it will be virtual.”
#2 – Start Strong
Job interviews take preparation and virtual job fairs are no different. Update your resume and customize it for your targeted employer and job position.
“Research the company and industry so you are prepared to ask questions,” suggested Shay Glover, a recruiter at ONE Gas. “Prepare and practice an elevator pitch to communicate your interest, passion and how you can add value to the company.”
#3 – Test Your Technology
A strong virtual first impression relies on technology. Always test your technology beforehand including your camera and microphone.
“I’ve seen many people miss out on opportunities because they ran into issues with their devices,” said Dillon Metcalfe, ONE Gas recruiter.
Additionally, he suggests finding a quiet area with a simple background to help limit distractions. Cluttered rooms and noisy environments can make you seem disorganized.
#4 – Dress for Success
You may be on your couch, but you will be on camera. Dress professionally – at least on the top half – just as you would an in-person meeting.
“The virtual environment can take some of the stress from meeting in person,” said Ann Herndon-Cox, a senior recruiter at ONE Gas. “It will still be the first impression a hiring manager will have of you, so make it a great one!”
#5 – Speak Up
Stand out in the crowd of candidates by demonstrating your interest with questions.
“My top tip for a participant would be to have questions ready to ask when they join the fair,” said Beth Bell, senior Talent Acquisition consultant at ONE Gas.
Feel tongue-tied? A quick online search can give you many great questions to ask in an interview that could help you connect with recruiters.
#6 – Sign Off in Style
When the event is over, you still have time to shine. Follow up with the company representatives you met and express your interest in a position.
“Write a thank you note or email to let the employer know you appreciated the opportunity to meet and what you could bring to the position,” added Shay.
